Brett's sister, Niki Knisley, is the Administrative Assistent for our Doctor of Ministries program here at Dallas Theologcial Seminary.

Brett has impacted my life through Niki and their parents who have visited here in Dallas.

I remember when we first heard that Brett was going to be assigned to Afghanistan. We thanked the Lord that he was not going to Iraq.

When I got the news that Brett had been taken home to heaven, I could hardly believe it. I was speaking at a church in Maine for Easter and as I talked with Craig, Niki's husband, by phone that night we both realized that Brett was home in heaven for Resurrection Sunday!

I thank God for this dear young man and his influence in life and in death all over the world and pray that his testimony may live on to the glory of God.

The one thing I remember most about Brett is that he could always light up a room with his smile. Although I wasn't as close to Brett as others, I know he had a great dedication to God, family, and friends. I just returned from India from a year of missions work and didn't know Brett was serving in Afghanistan. I was shocked by the news. People can truely say about Brett that his life was summed up by this phrase, "To live is Christ, and to die is gain." Even though he was taken at such a young age, God is patting him on the back and telling him his was a life well spent.

I have only met him once and I was blown away by his dedication and loyalty to God. As a sigma chi at purdue, I came down to IU to see my girl friend and went to a religous bible study. He spoke there and in awe that a one guy in a college could still be so close to christ. It was encouraging to know that I wasn't alone, and after hearing of his death I know that He is with God in heaven. He touched my life in 10 minutes and died protecting our way life. This man was no ordinary man, in hoc

Brett's funeral was as moving a ceremony as I have ever seen. I hadn't seen Brett in years, but I know that if I had run into him, it would have been just like old times. He would have hugged me and called me some word that he made up and done some really funky handshake and it would have been just like high school. North Central was a happier place because he was there. I have never met someone more in love with life than Brett, and I think that was a result of his love for Jesus. He had the joy, joy, joy, joy down in his heart. When I heard of his passing I was stunned in a way I have never been before. I've known other young people to have passed away, but never someone so vibrant and so incredibly alive. I was astounded at the service by the evidence of the Hershey family's faith in God. The idea that something so tragic could occur and that their faith is not shaken but instead continues to grow is an inspiration to me and I'm sure to many other people. Brett was a remarkable guy. And I know it's a cliche, but I can say that even though Brett was only a big part of my life for a short while, the way he lived his life made me want to be a better version of myself. And the idea that he died protecting our country and with an unabashedly passionate love for Jesus Christ is something that I will think about everyday for a very long time, and I will be ever grateful and proud to have known such a wonderful man.
